Sariñana moves past Medina

Former El Paso City Council member Luis Sariñana, who lost his last race for county commissioner two years ago, defeated County Commissioner Larry Medina on Tuesday in the Democratic Party primary runoff. "The voters spoke, and they made the right choice" Sariñana said. "This is a new beginning for El Paso County."
Escobar unseats Flores

Veronica Escobar defeated incumbent Betti Flores on Tuesday to become county commissioner of Precinct 2. "I'm very excited," Escobar said just after the final results were in for the primary runoff. "I'm looking forward to working for this community and bringing some honesty and ethics to Precinct 2."
Gamboa wins Probate Court seat

Voters on Tuesday made longtime lawyer Eduardo Gamboa the first judge to hold the new Probate Court No. 2 seat. "I feel very humbled by the amount of votes and the margin," said Gamboa, a 26-year lawyer and a part-time associate judge in Probate Court No. 1.
Olivo wins, will face Haggerty

Attorney Rick Olivo pulled away from Laure Searls in Tuesday's runoff election to win the Democratic Party's nomination and face three-term Republican incumbent Dan Haggerty this fall for the Precinct 4 seat on the County Commissioners Court. "Ultimately, what made the difference was getting out and talking to people one on one" in a door-to-door campaign, Olivo said. "I plan to keep working hard discussing the issues I think are important to all of El Paso."
Sanchez clinches new term as district clerk

Gilbert Sanchez won a second term as El Paso County district clerk. Sanchez, 38, handily defeated Irma Jaloma-Keith, 53, a former deputy chief of the district clerk's office and a retired sheriff's deputy, in the Democratic primary runoff on Tuesday. There is no Republican opponent for this race in the November general election.

Lorraine O'Donnell, a candidate who challenged state Rep. Pat Haggerty in Tuesday's Republican primary election, carried a majority of the precincts in the district, which covers Northeast El Paso and part of the West Side. Out of 36 precincts, O'Donnell carried 19 and tied with Haggerty for one, according to the El Paso County Elections Department precinct results.
