Jay Kleberg: Campaign lit the fire

I want to thank all of you who joined the Jay Kleberg campaign to make a positive difference in this community and the state of Texas. Collectively, we brought life and energy to the election process.
As promised, we ran a hard-work, positive campaign with vision. Through the tireless efforts of hundreds of volunteers and supporters, we connected with thousands of voters at their doorsteps, auditoriums, living rooms, classrooms, street intersections and polling sites.
Several people asked me in the days leading up to March 2 if I was nervous. I responded that I was not nervous, but excited and satisfied with a job well done. We did everything that we possibly could have done to accomplish a difficult task in a short amount of time.
Knowing that hundreds of people put their heart and soul into this campaign, I knew that there was nothing left to do but let the voters decide.
We lit a fire, fueled by a collective vision of a vibrant, culturally and economically diverse region that will lead the way in the 21st century. Our challenge now is to keep that fire burning and make an impact on this community in every civic and professional endeavor we undertake.
I know that we achieved our goal of inspiring voters across generations. I know this because at 12 polling sites March 2, we had 57 volunteers of all ages holding signs and calling friends to come out to vote.
At 6:30 p.m. election night, a woman walked out of the Shorty Lane poll, having just cast a vote
for me. She said that she was rushing her 18 year-old daughter to another polling location to cast her first-ever vote for Jay Kleberg.
In the days, months and years to come, remember the excitement and the energy we created and keep the fire burning. My family and I are committed, as are all of you, to El Paso and will continue to give our all to making this a wonderful place to live and prosper.
As I stated throughout the campaign, we have critical issues facing our region in the coming years related to tax reform, education and infrastructure spending.
And having effective Republican leadership in a majority-Republican House of Representatives allows our community to have a seat at the table.
I wish Dee Margo success in reaching out to voters in the coming months, and all the best in November.
Jay Kleberg was a candidate for state representative, District 78, in the March 2 Republican primary. |
